The "Me Too" Movement

The power this movement creates is not dominating over, but demanding awareness and respect through the reality of so many lives affected.

I can't express how disillusioned I am about the current news of the possible confirmation to the Supreme Court Justice of a man who has been accused of sexual assault. I just cannot believe that there are no other qualified individuals for this very important and prestigious responsibility. Politics are hotly debated and divided these days, but I think we should all be able to agree that there should be no place in our culture for sexually/physically attacking anyone.

It does not matter how long ago you were violated, these experiences stick to us our whole lives and affect our every move. We may work through each layer and every step along the way we regain our strength, and sometimes new moments arise where we are surprised to find ourselves re-triggered.  We must use this to figure out how to channel our anxiety into power and find our freedom. We must continue to use our voices and our stories to do this. We are WHOLE, We are HUMAN, We are LOVED, We are all interconnected, and Our story does matter!

I am moved by the strength of those voices who are speaking out. The re-victimization and re-traumatization is very real for those in the spotlight as well as for those survivors who are watching. Not everyone has the ability to use their voice, but for those survivors that have been able to use their platform. . . We hear you! We Support You! We Hurt for You! We Heal with You!

Our culture is finally starting to become aware of the hidden affects of what disproportionate power creates. This will continue to be a long journey, but the only road that leads to change is the road that gains growing awareness, and along with that will come some growing pains.  We need everyone (survivors and perpetrators) to heal in order to stop this pervasive violence.

Let us stand together to speak out for all people, or stand behind those who do the speaking on our behalf!
